Never touch a downed bat with your bare hands. Ever. If you do find a downed bat follow these steps:

  • If it’s in a structure, try to corral and isolate it into one room with an open window, and it’ll eventually leave
  • If you must contain it, use thick gloves and put a ventilated box on top and slide a sturdy piece of material underneath the bat. I promise it won’t disappear like that spider did. Probably.
  • Call your local fish and wildlife office, or find the nearest accredited wildlife rehab center seen in the website below

    • If you aren’t from Florida, you can find this information really easily. Just call your local fish and wildlife office and they can point you in the right direction.
  • Remember: DO NOT TOUCH THE BAT
  • And don’t take risks, if you are unwilling or unable to do any of the steps above, call your local fish and wildlife, an accredited wildlife rescue, or a bat removal service that traps and relocates bats.
